Funeral Director of the Year

About:  This award recognises the Company that clearly demonstrates outstanding service consistently, with excellence in customer care.   You should be able to evidence how you promote best practice, and what sets you apart from the rest.

Who should apply:  This category is open to any Funeral Director Company. 

Nominate or direct applications: Both nominations and direct applications are invited.

Independent Funeral Director of the Year

About:  This award recognises the Independent Company, who is not part of a national brand.   You should be able to clearly demonstrates outstanding service consistently, with excellence in customer care.   You should be able to evidence how you promote best practice, and what sets you apart from the rest.

Who should apply:  This category is open to applications from Independents who are not part of a national brand.   

Nominate or direct applications: Both nominations and direct applications are invited.

Individual Funeral Director of the Year

About:  This award recognises the Individual Funeral Director working within a Company.  What do your clients say about you?  Do you start early and finish late, to make sure your clients are happy?  Do you consistently go that extra mile?

Who should apply:  This category is open to both Independent and Group Funeral Directors.

Nominate or direct applications:      Both nominations and direct applications are invited.

Funeral Arranger of the Year

About:  The Funeral Arranger of the Year is someone extremely special and this is your opportunity to shine.  The funeral arranger is not necessarily a funeral director, but works closely with the families, often going out of their way to ensure they receive the service best suited to their needs.  

Who should apply:  This category is open to both Independent and Group Funeral Directors.

Support Staff Member of the Year

About:  The Support Staff Member of the year award is your opportunity to recognise the excellent work and dedication of those behind the scenes, who don’t necessarily have a public facing role.  Their position or job role is irrelevant, what is important is their dedication and their willingness to go the extra mile.  Be it the person who washes the hearse, or the admin assistant that fills in your paperwork for you.  The support member of staff who you couldn’t do your work without.

Employee of the Year

About:  The employee of the year award is your opportunity to recognise the excellent work and dedication of an employee. Their position or job role is irrelevant, what is important is their dedication and you should be able to demonstrate how, specifically, they have made a difference.

Most Promising Trainee Funeral Director

About:  Most Promising Trainee Funeral Director is for newcomers to the industry who have been in post for less than 6 months.  You should be able to demonstrate their aptitude for the role, coupled with any flair or initiative shown.  What makes them stand out?

Who should apply:  This category is open to both Independent and Group Funeral Directors.

Most Eco-Friendly

About:  This will be presented to the company that demonstrates the most eco friendly approach to their business.

Rising Star

About:  This will be presented to a newcomer to your company / business, who has been in post for less than 12 months, but already you recognise their potential to go far.

Who should apply:    This category is open to any organisation associated with ‘Dying Matters’, from Funeral Directors to Florist, from Nurses to Bereavement Services, and everything in between.

Most Helpful Funeral Advice Website

About:   Do you have a website that is easy to navigate, factual and gives the information that your clients require, without having to continuously click through?  Then this category is for you. 

Who should apply:  This category is open to any organisation that offers funeral advice online.

Funeral Officiant of the Year (Religious, Humanist, Celebrant)

About:  This will be awarded to the individual who consistently puts the needs of the family first, delivering a unique and reflective tribute to the life of the deceased.

Who should apply:  Any funeral officiant.

Crematorium of the Year

About:  This award recognises the outstanding contribution to the funeral industry, by providing a fitting and ethical venue for families to say their farewells, while accommodating and respecting the needs and beliefs of all.    

Who should apply:  Private, Local Authority, Pet Crematoriums

Crematorium Assistant of the Year

About:  The crematorium assistant of the year award is your opportunity to recognise the excellent work and dedication of a crematorium employee. Their position or job role is irrelevant, what is important is their dedication and you should be able to demonstrate how, specifically, they have made a difference.

Who should apply:  This category is open to Crematorium staff only.

Florist of the Year

About:  The Florist of the Year award recognises any florist, whether individual or part of a company, which creates floral tributes, from traditional to bespoke, tailor made to the client’s requirement. 

Who should apply:    Any florist, independent, working on their own or part of a company.

Funeral Caterer of the Year

About:  This category is open to those who provide top quality service and products for funeral teas in the North-East, be it a Venue or catering company.

Who should apply:  Anyone involved in catering for funeral teas.

Best Headstone / Stonemason Supplier

About:  This is for a company or individual who consistently provide excellent work completed to the highest of standards.

Who should apply:  Any individual stonemason or memorial company.

Lifetime Achievement Award

About:

‘In Memory of’ Award

About:  This award is for the business who provides the best quality memorial tributes, from jewellery to fireworks, photo frames to urns.  What do you do with your ashes?  Our ‘In Memory Of’ award, will be presented to the most innovative individual or company.

Who should apply:  Any business or individual who provides memorial tributes.

The ‘Great Idea’ Award

About:  Have you created a social group for people dealing with terminal illness?  Do you organise ‘respite’ for carers?  Have you had any great ideas that have come to fruition?  Perhaps it’s a yoga class for widows, or cooking classes for young widowers.  Whatever you’ve come up with, we want to know about and celebrate it.

About:  This award recognises the respectful way that people who work behind the scenes in funeral homes and mortuaries look after people once they have passed.
